People and society have somewhat become accustomed to action being stalled or side-tracked when it comes to important questions such as how to revive economies, create jobs, deal with pandemics etc.

But yet when it comes to technology, the idea of "instant gratification" has become more and more real. At a private reception during the "World Economic Forum" in Davos Switzerland, Former President Bill Clinton praised new technology and social media for raising an enormous amount of money, in a very short amount of time for earthquake victims in Haiti.

Donations raised via social media and through cell phone text messages, ranging from $5 to $10 dollars, amounted up to tens of millions of dollars.

Also at the WEF, Google CEO Eric Schmidt made his case that smart phones are the most powerful computers consumers have yet to see, and mobile applications will be the frontier of improving society.

"Although social networking technologies are not the solutions to the world's ills, they are solution-finders with enormous potential. As packed rooms of luminaries in Davos attested, it is better to retweet than retreat." -Bloomberg
